I think the Continental has the best rear on any sedan under $100k

It’s heartwarming to see that at least one company still knows how to design a trunk.

How many have you seen on the road?

Because I’ve only seen one (and mistaken 6 MKZ for a Conti because corp grill).

Too blocky for me. I like the XF — although the opening could be a bit bigger, it still has plenty of room inside.

while i agree with you, i wish the did a better job of hiding the tailpipe. I was surprised to look into that giant bumper exhaust hole to see a little tailpipe.

I’m also pretty upset they did away with the split grill just as they were getting it right.

I do love XFs, but Jag knows how to design a trunk, so they lose a lot of points for that tiny opening.

I’ve second-guessed myself quite a few times on the Conti/MKZ thing... after taking a second look at the door handles I nailed down at least 3. Or one three times, maybe.

Either way that’s at least 1 more Conti I’ve seen than CT6's. That makes me sad :(

I sort of wish they kept the TC’s hidden tailpipes. But I also wish that designers emphasizing tailpipes on non-performance cars.

They both have flat butts, clear centers to the lights, red lenses around the outside. Give the Impreza fake exhausts, a chrome strip across the trunk and connect the top of the tail lights and boom.

I’d just like to note that the model badge doesn’t appear anywhere on the rear and that makes me so happy.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s sort of an homage to the 98-03 Town Cars. On both, the model badging only appears on the side. Which is a beautiful acknowledgement of their role as livery cars. Model badge goes on the side because the passenger enters on the side.

On the XJ, they went the opposite direction and made it huge. I want to call the Jag design group and ask what the heck they are doing.

I’ve seen 3. 1 on the road and 2 in parking lots. I have no idea what Lincoln’s sales target was, but they are on pace for just under 10k per year. For reference, that’s going to be less than the final year of the old Continental in 2002. But - it’s a very similar number to a lot of other segment stalwarts that you don’t see very many of either - the current CTS, Lexus GS, Infiniti Q70, Audi A6. So it might not be dire. Most tellingly, however, it isn’t moving any more units than the aging XTS.

Monthly CT6 and Continental sales have been a dead heat. They both are moving right around 1,000 per month. I think the CT6 would do better if they would just axe the XTS. Yes, the CT6 starts about $8k higher, but they both are a similar type of vehicle that probably have similar buyers.

Isn’t the XTS on the same platform as the Chevy Impala and Buick Lucerne? Might be around just to fully amoritize the platform.

Yes, but that’s a design FEATURE! It gives you the uninterrupted time away from society to admire your beautiful vehicle, especially as it’s now pure art since it temporarily no longer serves as a vehicle.

Molto bene

Kinja'd!!! Honeybunchesofgoats > If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent
07/17/2017 at 12:25

Kinja'd!!!0

No, but the point is that the Town Car was a livery car and the location of the badging reflect that. All model badges are basically advertisements, but primarily to the person behind the car in traffic. Putting it on the side is advertising it to the passenger. It’s not for nothing that “Town Car service” entered the lexicon to refer to a hired car.
